Who Are You Encouraging?

"Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11   1 Thess 5:14

After running in the rain this morning I followed a hunch / prompting at Starbucks to encourage a random stranger studying the Bible. I am only sharing this incident due to a hunch / prompting. It's all God!

A few minutes later he approached saying with full gratitude how timely, needed, and affirming the comments were for him. I do not know any additional details and quite likely will never see him again. It's all God!

It scares me how easily I nearly justify avoiding these brief impromptu opportunities to serve God. Especially when I have not yet had my coffee! lol

Are you tuned in and ready for God to use you to offer a few impromptu words of encouragement (or a helping hand) to one of His people?

Simple "Service Projects" surround us each day. Serving God often occurs a few encouraging words/actions at a time over the course of a day, week, month, year and lifetime.

Who will God place in your path throughout this day?

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil." Proverbs 3:5–7

Encouragement in Life's Far Corners

In a marathon--or any race--runners greatly appreciate the large crowds of screaming fans. However, we have equal and perhaps greater appreciation of the scattered individuals away from the crowds, in the far reaches of the course, offering encouraging words.


Remember to cheer for and encourage your family and friends when they're away from the crowds, in the far reaches of life's course, offering encouraging words.

Encouragement

Encouragement is an instrument of divine change. ~ Charles M. Gibbs

 The blessing occurs for both the encourager and encouragee. Sincerely encouraging others generates the endorphin release associated with the runner's high. Keep the Faith!

A few weeks ago, I listened to an old tape of Denis Waitley speaking at a business convention for Fred and Linda Harteis in Pittsburgh, PA. During Denis' presentation on the Pyschology of Winning, he stated that endorphins are 200X more powerful than morphine.

Even if he misspoke, suppose endorphins are only 2X -- 3X more powerful than morphine, that is powerful!

When we walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16) we receive promptings to encourage others. Often they appear suddenly, and defy human logic. "Why should I encourage this person? Do they even like me?"

Our motive for encouraging others resides in obedience to God, to benefit those we encourage. Dr. Stan Toussaint points out that Acts 16:9-10 illustrates that true obedience acts immediately. Consequently, upon receiving the prompting to enourage, we must do so as quickly as possible.

This obedience to God, living according to His will (Matthew 7:21), triggers a release of endorphins--at least to myself and others with whom I have discussed this topic--despite the logic defying or outward circumstances of the situation.

Encouragement is lifting-up others, encouragement often serves as a catalyst to greatness.

You are a child of God. Keep the Faith--Trust Him, always!

Leader Servant: Encouragement

"If we can encourage others, we should encourage them. If we can give, we should be generous. If we are leaders, we should do our best." (Romans 12:8)

Frequently, I receive promptings to encourage others. I try to respond immediately, yet I sometimes hesitate to act while seeking assurance of the source of the prompting. I received abundant blessings from others encouraging me throughout my life.

Unfortunately, some people do not like or doubt encouragement. Most likely caused by their low self-esteem, each of us has challenges. The enemy (Ephesians 6:10-18) often seeks to diminish the value of people, and discourage those—like you—offering encouragement.

Godly encouragement is authentic with pure motive of benefitting the receptor, and glorifying God the Father, Son—the Lord Jesus Christ—and the Holy Spirit. Godly encouragement lacks falsities, lacks exaggerations, and lacks the encourager's motive self—glorification.

Godly encouragement begins with Godly love, desiring the best for others. This includes consistent, diligent prayer, studying the Bible and genuine interest in others. Godly encouragement requires desiring the uplifting of God and others above you, with the possibility of others disliking you and questioning your motives from you obediently responding to Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Yes, some may doubt or rebuke your Godly encouragement. However, focus on serving only God. Error on the side of obediently responding and serving Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Generously encourage those whom God places in your life, contribute to divine change in your home, office, community and nation.
