Only One You!

A linkedIn discussion group question posed, what is the most important lesson learned in your professional life. I pasted my response below.

One of my presentations is titled, "There is only one you." A leg broken on the weekend, remains broken on Monday at work. This truth persists with our emotional hurts and joys, as well as how we interact with and affect others.

Growing-up on a Smith County farm, one's personal and professional life existed without demarcation. We never discussed one's personal vs. professional life, they co-existed.

My dad spoke, acted and treated people the same whether he interacted with someone from The White House, visited with a world-renowned KSU scientist, a future hall of fame coach, a salesman, a neighbor or a family member.

We either possess honesty, or we lack honesty. We either love others as much as we love ourselves, or we lack this love. Part time honesty and part time love are oxymorons.

My lesson resides from my dad--as well as others--regardless of whether at home or work. Always, authentically care about people, and live truth. There is only one you!
